Rocking Away – Part 2

IMG_1367

It has been a while since I first posted about the rocking chair we are working on.  We made some good progress over the weekend and should get it finished up soon.  The rocking chair, like the steam bent chair, is done with green joinery.  Green joinery means the posts (legs) are still green (moisture content above 25%) when fitted with the beams (rungs), which are seasoned to a moisture content around 8%.  As the legs season they shrink around the rungs providing a strong mortise and tenon joint.  I’ll post more about the process at a later date but for now here is a photo of the completed chair back joined with the back legs.
